Koenigsegg Automotive AB can confirm reports online that a Koenigsegg One:1 was involved in a crash during testing as part of Industry Pool at the Nurburgring on Monday, 18 July. The driver was taken to hospital as per standard procedures in such situations and was released the same afternoon.

Koenigsegg has participated in Industry Pool testing for a week in each of the last two months, working primarily on vehicle setups both for ongoing vehicle development and for an attempt at a Nurburgring lap record at some time in the future.

A Koenigsegg is an extreme performance car and must be tested accordingly. This is an inherently dangerous undertaking that must be conducted progressively and methodically, working point by point on all areas of our highly adjustable vehicles. Our primary concern is always driver safety and any testing is structured and conducted accordingly.

This incident is confirmation of just how difficult it is to drive at this level on the world’s ultimate proving ground. Obviously we are dismayed with this development but pleased that our safety systems worked as designed to protect our driver.

        When you are trying to set records you must do as Pagani and use racing slicks.
        Road tires are not sticky enough.

          Slicks for testing ultimate potential. Of course. But if you are testing the parameters of production specs, and eventually going for a production vehicle record, slicks are a no go.

    Sometimes you learn stuff in a way you don’t wish for.

      Going more than 200 m with the wheels locked before crashing induce that the speed when loosing control was closer to 400 km/tim than 350. Could have been high speed shake syndrome and panic behavior from driver

        I have got confirmation from a chassis guru that the driver did not panic – he or she did the best in the situation prohibiting the car from spinning. If that had happened we would maybe have seen another “Kenny B crash”

    Oh it is definitely heart breaking to see such a beautiful piece of engineering in this state. It is the toughest track to master and with such a vehicle, even harder. Learn and improve I guess!
    Are there any tours held of the Koenigsegg factory? Would love to visit there someday if there are 🙂

      They do tours, but not during summer. Tours are back on in September I think.

    What a scary situation, both for the car and driver! I did notice in the comments that it will be rebuilt, which is just awesome and reflects how much you all care about your cars, but it is still devastating to hear that my favorite car was wrecked! In the long run though, I assume it will be restored back to its original glory, like restoring a classic muscle car. Keep us updated on when the car comes back 🙂

    Sad news, although such is the way of automobile testing at such a high level, pushing the envelope so far must have some consequences I suppose. I’m extremely glad that the driver is OK and that the safety systems of the car helped this fact. I have to admit, my heart sank a little when I saw the photos of the car earlier, a beautiful piece of engineering and passion severely bumped and bruised.
    Anyway, I suppose we mush look forward to the future and hope to see the One:1 back at the Ring at some point in the future to nudge the 918 off the top spot.

    Good luck Koenigsegg, although I don’t think you’ll need it!

    I am so glad no one got harmed badly, but the swedish cars were always the safest ones, for example back in the 90s or 80s I guess, the swedish rally cars, made by Volvo were so safe, that they would not need a rollover cage, it was just build in, because of the rules. Nevertheless I am looking forward to buy a Koenigsegg myself, one day.

    It is amazing to see how well the monocoque held up. I am sorry to see such a beautiful machine be down for a while but I know it will come back even better! The safety of the occupants is always the most important aspect of a super car and this unfortunate accident has proven the quality of the design and construction.

    First of all I am happy the driver is ok (just show how strong the carbon fiber chassis is). Second, I am glad to hear the car will be rebuild (probably it can be part of a new series like the one you are doing of Build128). The only downside of course is the time Koenigsegg will need to rebuild the car (if you consider that an Agera needs 6 months (or more) to leave the factory you can bet it will take the same amount of time (probable more) for this one.

    The car’s safety design worked great. Just be happy that what the car looks like is not what the driver looks like.

    It is by far very honest fact that such a hyper car provides safety in such a demanding track.
    That kind of a company koenisegg is and I’m glad of it.We saw many other cars in that level after a crash with katastrofic results.Cars that build them only to be in car shows only.

    Hello steve. I am a big fan of koenigsegg and your cars. They are beautiful,powerful,and extremely capable.it is unfortunate that the car crashed but it is good that the driver wasn’t hurt.it shows that Koenigsegg knows what they are doing when it comes to driver safety. The one 1 is one of my favorite cars made by your company and it is heartbreaking to see it destroyed. But thankfully you have confirmed that it will be rebuilt as said In the comments.hopefully u may continue testing the car and possibly breaking the record set by the 918 which I am confident it will based on its mechanical grip and power. Love your company and bring the Regera to America so it can. Whip the other cars asses😀.

    will u test again in nurbugring??….coz i am very eager to see how much one:1 can do in that straight road…but really sad to see my all time favourite car has crashed and nice to see how safety one 1 is….i don’t think any other powerful cars can withstand powerful crashes like koenigsegg…..

    Does this suck? Big time. But unfortunately it is part of the job, and everyone knows that it can (and does) happen. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and hopefully you’ll take the lessons from this and get back to the Nürburgring asap.

    Much credit to the “Egg” here, saw the car and I must say it looks much better in the picture than I expected to. The damage from photos appears to be mainly cosmetic, if true amazing.     There’s an old axiom in racing that applies just as well to the testing of any Super/Hypercar .. especially on a course like the ‘ Ring ‘

    ” If you’re not crashing you’re not pushing it hard enough ”

    The only logical conclusion therefore about this mishap being … Koengisegg is definitely pushing it hard enough .. which in the long run will only serve to benefit the customer . And thank the ” Small Metal God’s ” that the driver walked away all but unscathed … which also says much about the build quality and safety of Koenigsegg’s creations .
